It's God's Work Not Yours

sPaul tells us in 1 Corinthians 6: 11, that such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
Some of us have been and done many things. Notice the word "but" you were washed, sanctified, justified in His Name. God alone can remove all of the many sinful things that we have done.
Paul emphasizes God's action in making believers new people. The three aspects of God's work are all part of our salvation. Our sins were washed away, we were set apart for special use ("sanctified"), and we were pronounced not guilty ("justified") for our sins.
